How to Make SubCool's SuperSoil (THE DANK - TGA)

Recipe Overview & Preparation

This is the same foundational recipe SubCool championed for over 15 years. The most crucial ingredient to source correctly is pure, organic worm castings. Avoid bags sold as generic "soil conditioner with castings" that are mostly wood mulch. Seek out clean, pure castings with no fillers.

Mixing requires space and leverage. You can sweep off a garage pad or patio and work atop a durable tarp. An inexpensive 10-dollar kiddie pool works great for several seasons, while larger batches can be mixed via a clean electric cement mixer.

Mixing Technique: Step-by-Step

1. Layering the Pile: Dump several bags of base soil into a central mound. Sprinkle the powdered nutrients in rings around the mound, followed by the bat guano, then layer more base soil over top. Alternate layers until all ingredients are in the pile.
2. Homogenizing: Put on durable muck boots. Use your body weight and shovel to turn the pile inside out, breaking up clods by hand. Turn for at least 15 uninterrupted minutes until evenly distributed throughout.
3. Hydration & Cooking: Transfer into clean heavy-duty containers or garbage bins. Moisten lightly—about 3 gallons of clean water per 45-gallon bin. This moisture level activates native spores and mycorrhizae. Place bins in direct sunlight and allow the batch to cook for at least 30 days before usage.
4. Application in Containers: Never plant seeds or freshly rooted clones directly into pure Super Soil—the nutrient density will burn young roots. Fill the lower 30% to 50% of your finishing pot with the Super Soil concentrate, and fill the upper section with unamended base soil (such as Roots Organic or plain potting soil). As the roots stretch downward, they tap into the concentrate as needed throughout flowering.
